Titanic Belfast is a visitor attraction dedicated to the ill fated Titanic that sunk on her maiden voyage to America in 1912. It is located on the iconic site of the former Harland & Wolf shipyard in the heart of Belfast city’s Titanic Quarter. This is where the actual RMS Titanic was built. The attraction incorporates a series of nine interpretive and interactive galleries spread over six floors, that focus on the various stages of the titanic from her construction in the early 1900’s, her launch and through to the tragic sinking and subsequent aftermath. It also delves into the myths and legends associated with on of history’s most famous ship, being the largest and most luxurious at the time. The tour concludes with an insight into the wreck of the Titanic and how she currently looks, 12,000 feet below the surface of the North Atlantic.
Throughout the attraction vistors are transported back in time through the sounds, smells and sights that serve to heighten the experience. There are exact replicas of the different cabins, plenty of artefacts from the ship including, the last ever letter to be written on the ship and models. The gallery that deals with the survivors and tells their accounts of the sinking are especially poignant. There are plenty of information panels dotted around.
It is a self guided tour so visitors can explore at their own pace. Audio guides are available in a number of different languages. There are great views of the Belfast docklands from the top floor, where you can also see the iconic yellow Harlem and Wolfe crane.
