Lahinch Golf Club
Lahinch Golf Club is located in County Clare, in the West of Ireland, it is one of the country’s oldest golf clubs dating back to 1892. It lays claim to two excellent link golf courses, the oldest and most impressive is the Old Course.
Lahinch Golf Club was designed by Old Tom Morris back in 1892 but has underwent a number of alterations and improvements over the years by a number of different golf architects and the result is an outstanding course set admist an exquisite landscape, some of the original holes still remain. It is a par 72 course, that measures 7,229 yards from the back tees. The course is a genuine links course, wild yet fairly forgiving and uses the natural terrain to its best advantage.
It lies directly on the seafront and has amazing views from a number of the holes out across the Atlantic Ocean. It has:
- a traditional out and back layout
- an undulating terrain,
- plenty of obstacles
- as well as blind spots.
- Then there is the wind to contend with, owing to its exposed location, depending on its direction and strength it can really impact your game.
- Each hole is different here, some quirky and with a number of memorable ones.
- Features of this wonderful course include blind spots, humps and bumps, mounds, huge sand dunes and marren grass.
Being a hilly course it can be tough to walk so it might be best to get a buggy. The course starts well and continues to improve as you go round. The undulating rolling greens are slick, running true and are well protected by bunkers, the crisp-turf rolling fairways are excellent, they are tight, the rough is unforgiven and there are lots of well placed bunkers. It is a hitters and shot makers course, they will score well here.Awaiting you here is a tough test of golf and stamina but this is easily balanced out by the stunning scenery, it is a thoroughly pleasurable course to play.
