Lough Erne Golf Club – Faldo Course

Lough Erne Golf Club is a 5 Star Golf Resort in County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, set amongst some breath taking scenery next to the tranquil Lough Erne. It is home to two modern championship golf courses, the Faldo Course and Castle Hume Golf Course. The Faldo Course is the crown jewel here, it was designed by the renowned Nick Faldo and was his first golf course design in Ireland, opening in 2009 and immediately receiving high accolades. It benefits from a spectacular setting, sheltered on a 600 acre peninsula between Lower Lough Erne and Castle Humme Lough. This modern 18 hole parkland course is a par 72 and measures 7,167 yards from the back tees.The course has an excellent layout as you would expect and makes the most out of the diverse local landscape, it continually changes from lowlands with dense forest to marshland and hills. Features of this course include, deliberately tricky greens, plenty of water features that frequently come into play. In fact the lough comes into play on eleven of the holes. There are many wonderful holes here, it is difficult to find a weak one, if there is one. There are a couple of nice par four holes that are particularly interesting, as well as two really nice par fives, the 9th and 16th. It is a course that requires accuracy in order to score well. It starts off relatively easy but don’t let this delude you, things change quite drastically once you reach the 6th tee. There are many elevations on the course as well as long walks between the tees, and for these reasons you might want to hire a buggy to get round.The course is pristine and beautifully maintained, the tree-lined greens are enormous, consistent and fast, huge sand pits are frequently in front of them. The links-like rolling fairways are generous and sand capped to allow play all year round.Faldo Course is one where you will recall, each hole, each shot and every moment. There are stunning views from every vantage point and the natural incomparable setting ensures a wonderfully quiet and tranquil experience.
