Palmerstown Stud Golf Club is located in County Kildare in the charming country estate of Palmerstown House, amongst 800 acres of beautiful countryside.
The course was opened in 2005 and was designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr in a classic style, although it is a modern course. It is an 18 hole championship par 72 course that measures 7,419 yards from the blue tees, so is a considerably long course.
This parkland course has a nice layout and is well-designed as it blends in with the rolling meadows, glistening lakes, winding streams and pleasant woodland. It meanders through a large section of the estate and is set amidst a myriad of mature trees that change colour through the seasons, in some areas it is almost like a garden setting with flower beds surrounding many holes. Each hole has its own individual charm. The course is spacious and the distance between the tees and greens is long, it is a course that favours long hitters.
Water hazards are favoured here and come into play on twelve of the holes, as well as numerous impressive bunkers some are even shaped as shamrocks. It has a good selection of par 5’s and par 3’s. The course is relatively flat so is easy to get around.
The course is
- manicured and beautifully maintained,
- the lush fairways are well manicured and nice and wide,
- the undulating crafted greens are immaculate, fast and true and quite big,
- there are well placed and
- sculpted large bunkers and
- the rough is long.
Although the course is close to a motorway you do not hear any noise, as it is set so far back off the road, it is really peaceful and tranquil here.It is not surprising this premier course has received so many accolades, taking into account the excellent design combined with exceptional bunkering, the phenomenal setting and outstanding conditions secures Palmerstown Stud as one of Ireland’s finest Parkland courses.
